Do you keep a database of residential contractors to call when you encounter a problem in your home that you can’t fix yourself? If not, and to be honest, most people don’t, then who are you going to call for help?
You can go online to Yelp.com and check out contractor reviews, of course. That’s probably the first thing a lot of people would do, but unless you are very familiar with how Yelp works, it can be very misleading. For a start, it’s not easy to see which entries are paid for, or “sponsored”, and which are real reviews. And if there are only a few reviews, how do you know if it’s just family members that are posting the good ones?
Another approach would be to visit NextDoor.com, and either post a question like “Recommendations needed for somebody to fix my air conditions”, or just do a search for “air conditioner contractor”. Certainly a much better bet than Yelp in my opinion.
It may take a couple of days to get personal recommendations though. And that may not be ideal depending on your problem. And you may also get inundated with responses from contractors offering their services. Not quite the same as a personal recommendation, of course.
